Final Major Project

The rise in retail technology is fast approaching and the concept of experiential retail inspired this project and the aim to introduce a unique but simple-to-use digital high-street store for consumers of all ages. Coast were chosen as the client for this project due to their wide range of occasion wear collections and its target consumer, ranged between 18 - 55+ years old. It would be the first ever high-street store to introduce advanced technology into it’s stores.

Research into the future of technology in retail showed the increased use of augmented and virtual reality which inspired the creation of the Coast augmented app and interactive mirrors for this project. The augmented app uses virtual tags to display the location of the collections as the consumer walks around store. The interactive mirrors allow the consumer to virtually try products on without having to actually put them on. Style advice and the option to request different colours and sizes into the fitting room were also contemporary features on these mirrors. They contain everything the consumer needs for the perfect, stress free shopping experience as well as a unique theatrical feature which virtually places the consumer into the event they are shopping for.

I undertook research into the Coast aesthetic, previous marketing, consumer target market and future trends to make sure the marketing for these innovations would attract the target market. A marketing strategy was put together to show how the brand can use different methods to promote the in-store changes. A contest was put together to show how the brand can engage with the consumer. The winner of this contest was to win tickets to the exclusive trialling event which was also planned throughout this project. Visuals were put together using floor plans and design ideas that I had put together to give a clear plan of what this event will look like. Social media posts were also put together to show how this will be promoted throughout different social media channels.

Overall, my major project is a unique and contemporary concept that could improve Coast as a brand by labelling them as a ‘technologically advanced high-street brand.’

This project was built on concepts and therefore required mock up's of what the innovations would look like visually. This tested my ability to work on Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects, to make sure the layout was clear to readers.
